This Girl

She is something else, this youngest child of mine.

Full of curiosity and questions.

She lives full throttle and sometimes it’s a race to keep up.  In a few months she will be eleven and I am just beside myself at the thought.

She has my heart though.

She’s a writer, an artist, a warrior, and a pest. I’m not sure where life will take her or what His plan is for her and I really hope I can keep up. Because I think it’s going to be something to see.

Throw Back Thursday…Sort of

Most of the photography I do is for family and friends and people connected to my community of church and the kids school. Every now and then though I get contacted by a friend of a friend kind of thing and that’s how I came to meet this sweet  couple. Tim’s mother is a long time friend of my sister’s neighbor and family friend so when they mentioned wanting to do engagement pictures a few months ago my name popped up and I’m so glad it did.

We actually did the pictures back in April (hence the blog post title)  during spring break when his parents were visiting so it was a family event. Both Tim and Abbey are students at a local Christian college and the wedding will be back in her home state but they wanted their engagement pictures done here.

Because I hadn’t met them before I was a little nervous but they were all so laid back and happy it was easy for us to settle into good rhythm and we got some really sweet pictures.

Congratulations to you both, Tim and Abbey! I know you are counting down the days until the BIG day and I pray that you continue to find love in each other and in the details of all the planning.

Being in love is not merely a feeling.
It is a deep unity maintained by the will
and deliberately strengthened by habit;
reinforced by the grace which both partners
ask and receive from God.

Scenes From My Happy Place

The only thing better than a beautiful day at the beach is watching a storm move in.
But I do love when the sun is shinning and sand bar is close enough to wade out to and play on.

Gorgeous crystal clear water and just the right amount of waves and little to no undertow make for a pretty perfect day.

We also really enjoy water proof phone cases. Especially the two oldest girls who had a fantastic silly time taking selfies underwater. Then I of course got roped into taking pictures too.

Is it any wonder that the beach is my happy place?

A Beautiful Bride

Sometimes living in Florida with our pop up afternoon showers can be a tad frustrating as a photographer. We planned Chrisann’s bridals and had to cancel twice because of afternoon monsoons.

So, what were we to do because we had some serious time constraints to work within? Get up at 4:30 in the morning of course to do a sunrise session.
And oh my, was she indeed a beautiful bride!

Fabulous dramatic lighting at the fort that early in the morning.

Looking for all the world like a princess watching for her Prince Charming.

The First Week of April

Day One ~
Spring has sprung and the shades of green are lovely.

Day Two ~
Hints of rain as clouds roll across the sky. There is a weird but beautiful light that comes with gray clouds such as these.

Day Three ~
The first day of Spring Break 2015! Where else would we spend it?

Day Four ~
I love the beach. My kids love the beach. My beloved does not love the beach. It’s not often that we all go together but on Saturday we went to Ft Pickens and stomped around before heading to the beach to have a dinner picnic. I do a lot of pictures at the fort but for some reason this is the first year I am really noticing the pretty little wild flowers growing everywhere.

Day Five ~ Resurrection Day!
What a blessed and wonderful day we celebrate!

Day Six ~
Monday was low key and laid back. Not having to juggle everyone’s schedules and activities is a nice break from this busy almost at the end of the school year season. Plus it’s grilling time!

Day Seven ~

Again at the fort and the beach! Sam loves the fort and  when we went Saturday he didn’t get to spend as much time exploring as he wanted so I promised we’d go back. The easy thing about these last few visits is that we’re not actually swimming. We enjoy our picnic and watch the sun set. Can you think of a better way to end the day than this?

Linking up with Sharing His Beauty

Abby ~ Part Three

Here are the last of her pictures from our magical session in January. The light was fading but we moved onto the beach and, despite being a little chilly,  Abby was a trooper.

I’m really terrible about getting my pictures off the computer (a horrible confession from a photographer I know!) but I really need to have some of these printed.

Sorry for the picture overload but I couldn’t help myself! And truth be told there are a few more. Maybe I will share those another time.

Abby ~ Part Two

One of the things I love about photography is how easily I can change the story I want to tell just by shifting where I am standing and what direction I am shooting. Last week I shared some images of Abby that were full of golden sunlight and sun flare, two things my soul doth love.

But then we moved over a little and turned just slightly in another direction and the pictures we captured are some of the loveliest I have ever taken of this sweet child who is usually so uncomfortable in front of the camera.

It helps too that we live in a rather diverse place of beauty. Most people would be surprised that these were taken at Fort Pickens but they were. It just goes to show you that we can overlook the natural beauty that surrounds us because we get to used to it and stop looking for it.

Looking at these makes me want to do some more sessions like this! They also make me wish I had a huge wall space to print all of these some of them  one or two of them nice and large.

Friday Photo Journal      Best Shot Friday

Abby ~ Part One

There are times when my camera feels like a magic wand in my hands.

I always love taking pictures. Whether it’s families, or children or even the head shots I’ve been doing recently. Capturing certain moments…helping preserve moments and events in someone’s life…that is just an incredibly amazing thing to be a part of.
But sometimes.
Sometimes, I am surprised and amazed when something I see in my head becomes a reality on the back of my camera.
Sometimes I am startled when it all just comes together and the vision finds expression so perfectly that I want to dance I’m so happy.
It is an incredible feeling however fleeting it may be.
Back in January Abby and I spent some time together one late afternoon and in was one of those magical moments. Rarely have I been as proud of personal work as I am of the images from that day. I’m going to be sharing them over the next several weeks and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

I came across this quote by CS Lewis and it just seemed to fit so perfectly.
I can’t wait to share some more with you!

Making Memories

It’s been said that a happy family is but an earlier heaven. It’s a beautiful idea that I caught a glimpse of over the weekend photographing this sweet family.

Ft. Pickens, Pensacola Beach, family portraits

It was the first time I’d met Mark but I knew Amy when she used to teach K4 at Trinitas. It is always such a pleasure when I get asked to photograph the same people more than once and having done Mr G’s first birthday pictures I knew I was going to enjoy seeing those bright blue eyes and quick smile again. He’s pretty much always been a handsome fella, hasn’t he?

We had decided to do the pictures at Ft. Pickens and we had a good laugh at how almost creepy the fort seemed when we first arrived…we pretty much had the place to ourselves.

How precious is Mr G picking and giving flowers to his Mom?

It didn’t take long to see how much this family loves each other…truly a bit of heaven here on earth.
